BLAINE, Minn. -- Forward Gabe Garcia scored on a rebound after a free kick in the 88th minute to lift the Minnesota Thunder to a 2-1 win over the San Diego Flash yesterday in Game 1 of the A-League's Western Conference Championship.
In front of 2,743 at the National Sports Center, Flash reserve Daniel Sinouhi, playing for suspended forward Carlos Farias, scored in the 55th minute off the assist by Antonio Robles to tie the game at 1.
Minnesota scored first in the 22nd minute when John Coughlin headed in a rebound after Kevin Anderson bounced a penalty kick off the post.
Three Flash players who were unable to play in yesterday's game will return to action when San Diego returns home for the next game of the best-of-three series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Southwestern College. Farias, defender Jamie Munro and midfielder Kevin Legg a will be able to play after serving their one-game suspensions.
If the Flash, which has not lost two games in a row this season, wins Wednesday, the deciding game will be played at Southwestern next Sunday.
